Skiing 7 Summits

The "Seven Summits" is a mountaineering term referring to the highest mountain on all seven continents.

To climb each of the summits is the dream of many mountaineers. Over the years this has been accomplished by only a hundred and some adventurous souls.

But now, Davo Karnicar, an extreme skier from Slovenia, is one summit away from being the first person to ski down all the Seven Summits.

Karnicar refers to his remarkable feat as his 7 Summits Project. He started with the project in October 2000, when he skied Asia's, and the world`s highest peak, Mount Everest.

He then skied Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro in November, 2001 and Europe’s Mount Elbrus in May, 2002.

In 2003, he added Mount Aconcagua in South America in January and Australia’s Mount Kosciusko in August. In June of 2004 he skied North America’s Mount McKinley, and although it proved to be his hardest descent to date he successfully completed the challenge.

Now all that remains to finish his “Project” is Mount Vinson in the Antarctic, which he will attempt this coming November and December. (source:Mike Doyle - About.com)
